I don’t normally write blog posts about blog posts (anymore). Usually just link to them in my carefully handpicked stuff feed which you can find at the bottom of my blog’s sidebar. But this post on Ogle Earth I just have to give an extra mention: Many of you might remember this cameo appearance of Google Earth on the TV show The Simpsons. And, like myself, you might have asked yourself (and, most likely, worried about) how long it would take until this sort of real-time surveillance will become a reality.
Along the same lines, most of you have probably also seen or read about the stuff that people like Pict’Earth are achieving with their low-cost, almost do-it-yourself drones. (Or see this guy’s post if you think that’s still too sophisticated for your taste!)
Well, I guess the aptly named Sentinel AVE digital globe that can project real-time 2D video on the 3D landscape is yet one more piece in the technological puzzle that brings towards this vision…
